A Note from Error

Latest exhibition

Blessing Ngobeni’s latest body of work looks at history and meditates on the errors that have been made by past generations. Ngobeni is particularly preoccupied with the concepts of oppression and the enslavement of the mind.

Blessing Ngobeni’s works, which double as drawing-sculptures, reveal his view that beauty cannot be disentangled from the terrible.

The opening event was on Thursday the 15th of November 2018.
The panel discussion was conducted on Saturday the 17th of Nov 2018 with artists Thembinkosi Goniwe and Teresa Kutala Firmino, artist and director Rodney Place and art critic Athi Mongezeleli Joja.

A bit about Blessing

Artist. Visionary. Philosopher.

Blessing Ngobeni is a South African visual artist who creates abstracted works with a range of found objects; magazine advertisements; newspaper articles; and paint on canvas.

Motivated by social injustices experienced by the majority of people in post-Apartheid South Africa, Blessing Ngobeni’s large-scale mixed media paintings are fiercely critical of the country’s political elite and the abuse of power.

In addition to having exhibited in several group and solo exhibitions, Blessing has also been the recipient of many awards such as the Reinhold Cassirer Ward 2012 as well as the Gala Ex-Offenders Awards and the ImpACT Awards for Young Professionals. He also sponsors the Blessing Ngobeni Art Prize.
